Show Up and Have Your Say: Members, Delegates, and Your Vote

Last time, I talked about why this leadership race matters to every Nova Scotian, not just to people who already follow politics closely. Today, I want to make it practical: how do you actually take part?

Government belongs to Nova Scotians. Parties belong to their members, and everyone is welcome to become one.

Why Join?

You've already heard the basics: anyone can become a member of our party, and it's free. (If you missed that post, it is here.) But membership is more than signing your name. It's what gives you a real voice, a say in what we stand for, and a vote in choosing our next leader. The more Nova Scotians who join, the stronger and more representative our party becomes.

What Is a Delegate?

Being a member doesn't automatically mean you can vote in this leadership race. To cast a ballot, you need to take one more step and register as a delegate.

Every delegate is a member first. Not every member chooses to become a delegate. Think of membership as your seat at the table, and delegate registration as your ticket to vote in this particular race.

How Voting Will Happen

Each delegate gets a say in choosing the next leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, and Nova Scotia's next Premier.

Delegates cast their votes between November 21 and 28, 2026, online or by phone. The exact process may be refined as the date gets closer, so watch for final details on how to cast your ballot.
